Mohammed Abdulazeez Oshiorenua, popularly known as Sugarman on stage, was born on May 5, 1981, in Edo state in southern Nigeria to Mr. Mohammed Shaka Aliu and Mrs. Rabietu Mohammed.
This highly talented and fast-rising Nigeria star hails from Etsako West local government in Edo state. He attended Army Children’s School Ikeja and Army Day Secondary School Nicoho Barracks Auchi for his secondary education.
He studied Islamic studies at Ahmedu Bello University, Zaria, and then proceeded to Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma to study Accounting. Thereafter, he obtained a Master’s degree from the University of Benin, Edo State, Nigeria.

After graduation, he worked briefly at the then Equatorial Trust Bank; MTN, and Edo State House of Assembly. However, at this time, music was burning deep in him. He resolved to abandon everything he was doing to walk the music career path.
In one of his interviews he said and I quote, “I uncovered early in life that nothing gives me more pleasure than music; so burning bridges to follow the career path was not a difficult decision for me to make.”

Sugarman’s Early Days in The Music Industry
When this Edo state artist first appeared on the music scene at an early age, his unique way of dropping his lines quickly endeared him to a great number of music lovers in Nigeria and other parts of the world who had the chance to listen to some of his early works.

On several occasions, he was invited to perform alongside some A list artists in Zimbabwe, Ghana, Zambia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Togo and so forth. He was described by an erudite South Africa fan, as the future of Africa music!
He was formerly signed to Immortality records a record label in Lagos, Nigeria. Unfortunately, at a time his music was gathering momentum and he was about to attain stardom, the record label closed shop due to some circumstances beyond its control.
He was disillusioned greatly, and this event dampened his hope of attaining international acclaim with his work. He resolved to take time off from the music industry to pursue other dreams.
But because of his deep and burning passion for music this was difficult if not impossible for him to do. As luck will have it, he was elected into office as PMAN(Performing Musicians Employees Association of Nigeria) treasurer in Edo state chapter.
But despite attaining some level of success in other career path, he didn’t give it a second thought when his passion for music came with full force and ordered him to go back to the music industry where he belong.
After a few years of waiting and waiting to hear once again from this once fast-rising Nigeria star, many of his teaming fans resigned to fate, and others waited and hoped for the best.
Fortunately, on the second week of March 2023, he announced his comeback on his Twitter handle. Those who knew him jubilated greatly because they knew the Nigerian music industry will never be the same again.
Since his return, he has been in the studio working tirelessly on new songs. As I speak, he has just released his long-awaited EP Family House. And guess what! He promises to release more tracks before long. As I earlier said, these songs are hot, smoky, banging, and out of this world.
