Patrick Akah, popularly known as Akah Great by friends, was born on November 17, 1970, in Edo state in southern Nigeria to Mr. John Akah and Mrs. Ashionye Comfort Akah.

This highly talented and fast-rising Nigerian oldies musician hails from Isoko North local government in Delta state. He attended Community Primary School, Nifor in Edo state, and Edo Boys High School for his secondary education.

He proceeded to the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in Edo state and was disciplined in Physical and health education. He studied hard and obtained his BSc.

After graduation, he worked in the Civil Service Commission, where he rose to become a high-ranking officer before leaving to pursue other dreams.

Patrick Akah is a man of many parts! Just as he is passionate about music, he also has a profound love for literary art! He emphasized this love for this career path as soon as he left the Civil Service Commission by starting up a publishing business. 11

Today, he is a prolific author with many best-selling literary books and novels to his credit. In fact, he has become a sought- after author whose book is in great circulation in many schools in Nigeria; particularly in the Southern part. His books are all over the internet! How He Started Music!!!

As earlier stated, Patrick Akah is a man of many parts. At a time in his life, he resolved to abandon everything he was doing to walk the music career path.

In one of his interviews he said and I quote, “I uncovered early in life that nothing gives me more pleasure than music; so burning bridges to follow the career path was not a difficult decision for me to make.”

He spent must part of his youthful years finding himself and marketing his talent. In fact, in those days, there was a talent hunt TV Programme designed to helping young and talented people.

The TV Programme was called NTA Music Panorama. It was in this talent hunt TV show one of Africa’s greatest musicians, Majek Fashek was discovered. 22

Because of how good he is at his music dream, oftentimes, he will travel from the then Bendel state Nigeria, all the way to Lagos just to showcase his talent. He was known for singing Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and other great musicians’ tunes in thatTV Talent hunt show !!!

Early Days in The Music Industry!!

When this Delta state artist first appeared on the music scene at an early age, his unique way of dropping his lines quickly 3333 endeared him to a great number of music lovers in Nigeria and other parts of the world who had the chance to listen to some of his early works.

On several occasions, he was invited to perform alongside some A list artists in Zimbabwe, Ghana, Zambia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Togo and so forth. He was described by an erudite South Africa fan, as the future of Africa music!

He was once signed to a top record label in Lagos, Nigeria. Unfortunately, at a time his music was gathering momentum and he was about to attain stardom, the record label closed shop due to some circumstances beyond its control.

Patrick Akah was disillusioned greatly, and this event dampened his hope of attaining international acclaim with his work. He resolved to take time off from the music industry to pursue other dreams.

Despite attaining some level of success in another career path, especially in literary art, his deep and burning passion for performing art was difficult if not impossible for him to ignore

Despite staying away from the music industry for a longtime, he didn’t push away the thought, let alone fight back when his passion for music came with full force and ordered him to go back to the music industry where he belongs!!

News Too Good to be True!!

After many few years of waiting and waiting to hear once again from this once fast-rising Nigeria star, many of his teaming fans resigned to fate, and others waited and hoped for the best.

Fortunately, on the second week of September 2024, he announced his comeback on his Twitter handle. Those who knew him jubilated greatly because they knew the Nigerian music industry would never be the same again.

Since his return, he has been in the studio working tirelessly on new songs. As I speak, he has just released his long-awaited single “Africa The Beautiful People” and guess what! He promises to release his LP before long.!!
